Not everyone is a scholar in Kindergarten

This post has been brewing in my head for a week. I meant to post it earlier, but me and procrastination are best of friends, and my friend is always telling me another day won't hurt.

Wow, I am ancient enough that I have a kid that has successfully completed a year of public schooling. Can you believe it, Brian (my Brian), is a kindergarten graduate? This is one moment I never contemplated in my entire life, but I have a kid who graduated from kindergarten. He learned a lot this last year. If you don't believe me, ask him to read something for you, he rocks! But even more so, he is wise beyond his years. His favorite thing about summer is, "that he gets to sleep long". How is that for picking up on a life long habit early.

Brian's elementary school had an awards ceremony for kindergartners. When I heard about it, my thoughts were, "hmm, this is one of those things where everyone gets an award." When I thought about what award Brian would get, I thought, most white slips. Brian and his teacher's personalities clashed a little, and a white slip is what you get when you have been in trouble. Thank goodness he didn't reach the limit of 3 white slips to be kicked out of school. How lame is that for kindergartners? When I read that, when he came home with his white slip, I just threw my hands in the air and laughed at the audacity of the person that came up with that idea. Anyways back to the blog.

Natalie and Kallie went to watch the awards ceremony. We soon discovered that Brian was a scholar. Brian received two awards!! I will preface my description by letting you know that the total numbers involved include three kindergarten classes. I am not sure how many kids are in each class. But my general guess is 20-30 kids a class. So this is out of 60-90 kids.

Brian's first award was entitled, "Reach for the Stars" the Cougar (school mascot, cool eh) Scholar Award. The description is, "genius produces great ideas and concepts Hard work produces the results". Brian was 1 of 6 students out of all the Kindergartners to receive this award!

Brian's second award was for perfect attendance. Brian didn't miss a single day of school for the entire year. He was 1 of 2 students to get this award!

Brian is happy to have his summer ahead of him, but proudly announces that he will be a 1st grader. Hopefully he continues on his path of excellence. My only hope now is that we can disguise the road his father travelled. He is so much like me, that I worry he will decide school is a social experiment, and not a place to learn. I have no tactic, yet, to combat what I used to be.

We are really proud of Brian, he did such a good job. We are so excited for him, and his acheivements. YAY Brian!! We love you! Here are a few pictures of Brian, enjoy.

This is August 27, 2007, the first day of school. So young, so many things to learn.

Flash forward to the last day of Kindergarten. Does he look older, does he look wiser. If nothing else he learned the value of sleeping in.

Here are the only two kindergartners with perfect attendance. Yay Brian! Next stop, 1st grade!

Yes! Sleep while you can! Someday there will be no chance. As for hiding your past from Brian, I'm afraid I have no advice.

That is so freakin' awesome. I think the creative ideas thing is such a cool award to receive. I am so proud of him. He is so handsome. Oh, and, I totally agree with the white slip thing. That is the most retarded thing that i have ever heard. Anyways, soooooo cool. We love you Brian!!!
