Speed Racer
(PG)
Andy
Well thanks to me the experience started off a bit out of sorts. Apparently I can't read because we ended up in the Ironman theater. Brian was complaining that it was taking so long for the movie to start. And he was right, the movie started 20 minutes after the movie we intended to be in. We sat through the previews and then the movie started. Brian was very excited, as I walked out of the theater to tell the workers that they must have made a mistake and turned on the wrong movie, he said, "Daddy I like this movie." I am glad I finally decided to read, because I checked the theater label before I made a fool of myself and read, "Ironman". I looked across the theater, and there, plainly labled, was a theater sign that read, "Speed Racer". Honestly Ironman was so good, I thought about just staying in that movie. But we didn't. I collected a 6 year old, and an arm full of treats and jackets, and led a bummed out 6-year old to the correct theater.
I was very frustrated with myself, and called myself a few names in my head, mostly all related to my level of intelligence. It was hard jumping into the movie having missed the start, and I felt like I had missed the entire plot line of the movie. Thankfully I was able to pick up pretty quick. Make no mistake this is not a movie that takes a genious to figure out whats going on. It is even being described as a kids movie. In fact when the movie was done, I was left with that feel good feeling I associate with Disney movies. And it was one of those movies that kind of sank in with an even better feeling over time. Some would say, a good aftertaste.
This movie was made by the same people that made the Matrix. For those of you that have seen the Matrix (edited of course), you know they can do some pretty cool special effects. I think it has just about every color on the color wheel get splashed across the screen at least once. And with no pun intended, this movie was a thrill ride. Sounds of cars racing at 800 mph, incredible colors, solid characters, and a movie that leaves you routing for the good guys to win (even though you know deep down that he is going too), make this an awesome movie. The racing spans from Ben Hur to James Bond. You see everything from tire shredders, giant saw blades attached to cars, bulletproof cabs, and since I am not articulate enough to give them a name, cool things on the bottom of the cars that slam onto the ground launching the car up in the air to avoid those evil tricks the bad guys put in their paths. Brian liked, "The race car movie". I found myself liking it a great deal as well. When I left the theater I was contemplating 2 1/2 stars, but as it sank in I went to 3 stars. And now when I see anything labeled Speed Racer, it makes me excited about it.
I will buy this movie. Not just for Brian to watch, but for me as well. This movie was just good clean fun.

Brian and I really want to see Ironman. We have heard lots of good things about it. I think it is hilarious that you sat in the wrong theatre for 20 minutes. Hee Hee! I attribute it to having a kid with you. My mind always seems a little more frazzled when I am out with kids.
