For most of my life, summer TV has been horrible. It always seemed like the good stuff was on during the fall and spring. When we were hotn and miserable, and just wanted to relax in the summertime, the remote got a workout. Click, Anne of Green Gables marathon, Click, Ronco Food Dehydrator infomercial, Click, re-run of your favorite show that the season had just ended on (this makes you even more bitter), Click, music video that is borderline pornography, Click, Weather Channel. Anyways you get the point, nothing good was ever on. Now don't get me wrong, summer TV is still lacking compared to the good stuff. But a few diamonds in the rough have appeared. Over the past few years, Natalie and I have even come to look forward to summer TV. Here is one of our addictions.

This show, in NO way, has the following that American Idol does. (Voting wise, Idol gets about 50-80 million votes a show, SYTYCD gets about 12 million) But it is designed by the same people. Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of Idol, is the main judge on this show.
The premis is just like Idol. The first few episodes are of people trying out. Some stink, and some are totally amazing. The horrible are filtered out and the contestants are flown to Las Vegas. After grueling tryouts in Vegas, 20 contestants are selected. 10 Boys, 10 Girls. From there on out, the main part of the show starts. Boys and girls are randomly grouped as couples. They draw a style of dance from a hat, A choreographer is assigned to them, and they have to dance that dance. And I am not talking piddly stuff here, these dances are amazing. At the end of each week the bottom couples are selected (national phone vote like Idol). And, each person, in the bottom (two, I think?) couples, has 30 seconds to dance any style they want, to save themselves. Then the judges decide which person didn't prove they are good enough to stay. They get the boot.
Now for Idol, I have an ear for music, I have sang my entire life, and I feel like I can relate to these people pretty well. There are times I even think I could hold my own against some of the contestants. But with dancing, hmmmm... I DO NOT have the skills to pay the bills. My dancing would be so horrible that other people would be embarassed for me. You know those moments when you don't even want to look, because you are so embarassed for the other person? Well it would be one of those moments if I even attempted to dance.
But I will admit, after watching this show (every season, and we are on season 4 now), I have a new respect for dancers. These people are more athletic than most anyone. They are able to do incredible things. And I have been blown away by some of the dances.
Last season a girl from Utah won the entire thing. The year before that, an LDS guy won (Benji Schwimmer) the competition. And this year for tryouts, they even came to Salt Lake City, and 32 people from Utah were sent to Vegas to continue on.
So, if you find yourself craving that feeling American Idol gave you. Or, your someone that just wishes there was something to watch on TV. We recomend you try out one of our favorite shows. The show is already in progress, so basically if you start now, all you missed was tryouts and Vegas. So now, it's to the good stuff.
Here is a video of one of my favorite tryouts. The dude quit in Vegas which was terribly disappointing, but this is the kind of stuff you could see.
Also if you want another recomendation we like;
The Mole - http://abc.go.com/primetime/themole/index?pn=index
And I (not Natalie, LOL) and looking forward too; (I won't recomend these to others because they seem to be strictly designed on my desire to see bad things happen to stupid people.)
Wipeout - http://abc.go.com/summer/wipeout/index?pn=index and, I survived a Japanese Game Show - http://abc.go.com/summer/isurvivedajapanesegame/index?pn=index
As you can see, I was able to get my movie review back, and better than ever. And YES, the stars are stolen LOL. This time, I saved the images to a server so they can't take them away again. Enjoy, and tonight is Kung Fu Panda! I might start working on the post now, so there is less work after the show.

We love So you think you can dance too. Unfortunately I have class on Thursdays the next couple of weeks, so I will miss it those days. I've never even been much of a fan of dancing, but the dances they do are so amazing and fun that I can't help but love it.
I've been watching this since season one and I really love it. Even Barbie adores this one. When we moved here and had no cable for the first 2 months, she would copy a few weeks worth on a tape and send it to me. I'm so glad that you like it too. Like Mother like son and daughter in law. I'm so glad you included the clip from the try outs. He is amazing and I was so sad to see him leave.
