Wall∙E, The Review

WALL∙E

From A N B K

Rated G

This last Friday we went for a family movie to see Wall∙E. I know, I know, Wall∙E came a long time ago. We went to the "cheap seats" in Logan. We had heard a lot of good things about this movie. The reason we didn't go see it before was that it just didn't sound like it was up our alley

Well we will probably be publicly flayed for saying this. But we should have trusted our instincts. Neither Natalie, or I, thought this movie was very good. Now don't get me wrong this movie was animated exceptionally. We just didn't like the path that it took, it felt like Pixar hit a foul ball when we are used to home runs.

There were parts of this movie that I thought were funny. I am not holding back on spoilers since I am pretty sure we were the last people on the planet to see this movie. I liked how the human race degenerated to the point that they were so fat and lazy that they floated around on their portable La Z Boy chairs. I think that was Pixar's way of saying where the human race is headed if they maintain their level of laziness.

This movie isn't one we are too concerned with adding to our video library. It just wasn't up our cup of tea. Were sorry if you disagree, but if you do....... oh well.

(Natalie's stars have been modified to reflect her opinion, I listed her opinion as 2 stars, but I was informed that 2 stars was to much)

Eagle Eye, The Review

EAGLE EYE

RATED PG-13

It's been a while since we saw this movie, but I never got around to typing the review. The reason being, my hard drive on my laptop crashed. So I lost all my movie star graphics. But we are back up and running again.

Natalie and I wanted to see this movie ever since we saw the previews. Here is what KSL.com has to say about it;

"In Chicago, a slacker named Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) finds that his normally empty bank account now contains hundreds of thousands of dollars and his apartment is crammed full of terrorist devices. Meanwhile, single mom Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan) has just sent her young son on a band trip to Washington, D.C. When their cell phones ring, these two strangers learn that they have become the pawns of a woman who knows their every move and has drawn them into a diabolical plot."

Now I am not going to explain the movie anymore than that, it will spoil the plot for you. This movie was a fun movie to see. Lots of action, loud, and in my opinion, a story line that is pretty well written.

After you see this movie, and think about if this could really happen, you might be a little bit worried. While this isn't the best movie we have seen recently, I definitely recommend you see it.

Get em hooked while they are young

Well the Wyoming game has come and gone. It was a great time. It was quite enjoyable to watch the total domination. Natalie couldn't go to the game, so Brian got to come with me. I wasn't sure how well he would do there.

I was more worried that I would spend half the game because I was catering to him, and taking tons of trips to the bathroom to break up his boredom. But it turned out much better than expected.

He absolutely loved it. He ate it up. And now he is showing all the signs of a budding fan. He has requested his bedroom be converted over to a BYU room. He keeps asking when he gets to go back, and he wants to watch any football game on TV that we see. He has even converted one of his bookshelf shelves to a BYU shelf.

It looks like I have some company in my addiction for the rest of my life, and I am glad to have him.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury; I present exhibit A

I figured I would put a little bit of evidence up showing I was actually present at the beat down of 2008. Enjoy, I know I did.

Oh I am so excited to go to the Wyoming game now!!

A game I won't likely forget for decades to come

On Monday, my brother-in-law, Lance, called and offered me one of their season tickets to the BYU game VS. UCLA. It takes quite a bit to keep me from taking a free ticket on a day that I don't work. I worried about the game all week. I knew that if any team had a chance to beat BYU this season, this was going to be 1 of 2 teams I was worried about. To make matters worse, I was sick all week. I kept waiting for my disease of death to leave, but never got lucky. I decided even if I had to go with an IV stand, I was gonna be there.

So on the way to the game I stopped by the doctors office for a visit. Of course, I stripped off all my BYU paraphernalia. I didn't want the doctor to look at me and chastise me for being on my deathbed and heading to a football game. I found out I had a sinus infection, grabbed my prescriptions and drove down to Provo. It is always such a good experience to be at the game in person.

Lance and Rachel have some pretty good season tickets. I loaded up on some expensive, but terribly delicious, stadium food and enjoyed the game. It turns out it was a game I will most likely never forget. It was BYU's second biggest win in history!

Well as most of you know, the game was awesome (if your a BYU fan). I imagine the suicide hot line is ringing off the hook in UCLA country today. BYU administered a beat down on UCLA, 59-0. It was so bad, that they (UCLA) haven't been beaten that badly since 1929. And BYU hasn't pummeled someone so hard since 1988 when they trashed New Mexico 65-0. I believe these pictures say it all. (Click the Pictures for bigger versions)

Now I don't know the caption on this next picture, but I have one for you.... "UCLA Coach ?, reacts to the scoreboard after showing up late to the game."

This game was absolutely awesome, we felt pretty bad for the ROTC guys that have to do push ups for every score. My clapping muscles were tired, and my voice was shot by the end of the game. What a great time. I owe this one to Lance and Rachel, thanks for thinking of me, I loved it. When they post some pics on their blog of us at the game I will add those as well. ( I already got permission to steal them). And now I am even more excited for the "Marchant Family Annual BYU Extravaganza", next week at the BYU VS. Wyoming game!

GO COUGS!

Its not the soccer I remember, but its a start

Soccer doesn't seem to be a sport that goes away. When I was a kid I played soccer. My brother was a phenom soccer player, it seemed that every weekend we were at a soccer tournament of one sort or another. I would like to think I am pretty soccer savvy. I know the rules and know the strategy. Soccer is a worldwide sport so everywhere you go, you see people playing it.

Well Brian has reached the age of youth sports. We had a pretty fun experience with t-ball, and decided to get him into soccer. We missed the registration date, luckily I have connections and was able to get him on a team. Last Wednesday was Brian's first game. I love my boy but he is a tank, and I didn't know how well he would handle all the running. And even worse, he is bigger than everyone, so I didn't know if someone else could handle all that momentum running into them if he got moving.

He had a blast. His favorite part is the shin guards. He loves that people can kick his legs and it doesn't hurt. He is really gonna love football, because he wishes he had shin guards all over his body. It is kindergarten soccer so strategy is out the window. Its more like mob ball. All the players but the goalie move all over the field in a large crowd. Brian seemed to land himself on an all-star team. There is a friend of his on the team that appears to have been playing soccer at the time of birth. They don't keep score in the games, but I bet this little boy scored 10 goals. Brian even scored a goal. The good thing about it, is the boy helps Brian be better, because he is always helping him know where to stand.

Brian said he loved soccer more than t-ball, and has been asking when his next game is. I am glad that he loved it so much.

The giant one in the back of the mob is Brian

It's that time of year already

Don't get me wrong, after the hectic week I had at the County Fair, I am glad for it, but I can't believe it's that time of year already. The time of the year I am referring to is the end of summer. But I gladly welcome the change. This summer has been busier than any before. Police work in our growing town is getting harder and harder to keep up. And although a lot of people don't agree with me, I am ready for summer to be over. We don't have central air, so the house is hot. Not to mention my work uniform is dark blue and black, and there is a 1/2 inch of kevlar under it. So I am gladly welcoming cooler weather, football season, upcoming holidays, and the ability to regulate the temperature in our home.

One of the things that comes with the change is school. Here is our 1st grader. I had parents nerves sending him school for a full day. But he handled it good. The only issue was he decided he was big enough to walk home by himself. He is bigger (physically) that some of the 5th graders. But I don't want my 6 year old walking home by himself. Not to mention the fact that he was supposed to ride home with his Aunt Katie. Katie thought he was missing, and I had to race Brian back to school as quick as possible before he was reported missing. He got a serious talking too by his dad, but he was so proud that he walked home by himself, 90% went in one ear and out the other.

Take Note of the Batman backpack (with wheels). This was a special request. Natalie put in many long mommy hours searching the entire Internet to find the one that he put his stamp of approval on.

And of course with all that Internet searching, Natalie was also thinking of upcoming holidays. She decided to cement the kids into their costume choices for Halloween. She wanted to make sure that she got the costumes the kids wanted. Most of them are sold out when it's time. So here is our Kallie Kay wearing a bit of her costume.

Kallie is going to be a witch. Natalie found some super cute witch robes. Kallie and Brian got to play dress-up for a half an hour after we got the costumes. I over heard "Witch Kallie" telling "Batman Brian" that she is a bad witch, she said, "I am not going to do anything that's right, cause I am a bad witch."

The end of summer comes with lots of changes. But I think we are ready ........ kind of.
