Hancock, The Review

HANCOCK

RATED PG-13

I had been excited to see this movie ever since I saw the preview for the very first time. It was slated to come out the same week that some of the greats have come out. So I was extremely surprised when the critics had some negative things to say about the movie.

Due to the reviews, I had pretty much decided that this was going to be a renter. But our actual anniversary came around, and Natalie and I really wanted to see a movie, and this one won.

Since I couldn't find a good movie description that tells about the movie, you have to suffer with my own. John Hancock is a superhero. He is an alcoholic and could really care less about saving people. It pretty much seems the only important thing to him is a place to rest and drink. And when Hancock does spring into action to stop bad things from happening, he leaves a trail of massive destruction behind him. During one of Hancock's rescues, he ends up saving a PR expert named Ray. Ray sees the potential in Hancock and does his very best to help fix Hancock's damaged image, and make the city love him again. We find out that Hancock has no memory of his past. Ray's wife knows something, and you can tell from the first time she sees Hancock. To say anymore would ruin the plot line of the movie, so I won't ruin it for you.

I know in the world we live in today, PG-13 movies can be pretty racy. This movie definitely earned its rating with language. There is bad language through the entire movie, and its obvious. Add in a touch of violence, and I am sure they would say "thematic elements" (whatever that is), and this movie is PG-13 for sure.

I really liked where this movie was going, and then the plot line started to head in a different direction. I still liked this movie just because I was entertained. This is not a blockbuster by any means. It was a disappointment to have Will Smith in a movie that wasn't fantastic. But he is the best part of this movie. I don't plan on buying this movie and probably won't bother renting it either. This is a, "If its edited and on TBS or USA (5 years from now), I would watch it if there was nothing else on". Now this is all being said after seeing it once. If I had not seen it yet, I would always wonder how good it was going to be.

And there you have it, Andy's take on Hancock.

Thanks for the review. We saw Get Smart at the drive in last night. Sooooo good. I really liked that one. We'll skip Hancock. Thanks for saving us money.
